Spiral Awards! (and other things)

Love them or hate them, the Spiral Awards are back. Only stories ending in 2007 are eligible. More details can be found in this Garden post.

Frustrated's gorgeous "Melted Music" definitely will be the first of my yellow nominations for 2007! 8-bit's "The Happily" springs immediately to mind for red.

Madam, as much as I love you, I am NOT nominating "Go Team Porn!" for purple! That was hilarious upon first reading, but merda.

Real Life is to blame for my recent lack of posting. I haven't read much in the last three updates, sans one obvious red story. "Legacy" was delicious on its own, but I wish trilby would explore less predictable avenues. Certain themes that aren't tired genre-wise are tired coming from him since readers know what to expect.

Maybe we should post about something other than writing and the MC community. Would any of you find hypno posts interesting? Hypnosis is one topic we can ramble about happily with little snark.

I am faintly shaking from the amount of coffee I've consumed. OH! Welcome to Portland, Doublefine! Belatedly. *glances about shiftily* What else . . . ? Madam is slowly working on the first Silververse spin-off story, though that won't be publicly available until many months from now. She's been indulging hypnofun and working on the MC-themed game she'll be putting up as a demo soon.

Ideas for future posts are welcome. What do you want to read from Madam, or from me? Maybe we should hypnotically turn Erika into Quillspawn and have her do reviews . . . Coffeegasm. ^.~

Oh, triggers. Few things are more fun than hitting two coffee-possessed souls at once! The two programmed to coffeegasm experience the sweetest, darkest espresso imaginable sinking into their tongues as a wave of euphoria momentarily melts them.

I think I need to shut up. Happy Spirals, and do consider nominating some of Madam's work if you find her stories enjoyable. (Why did "Coping Mechanism" have to end this year?!) I guess I'll have to go with Ink Soaked Penumbra or one of its lead-ins.

Umm a couple of things.

1. Wow coloured text 0_o

2. Hypnofun? :p

3. "Maybe we should hypnotically turn Erika into Quillspawn" YES ^_^ Need some more QS running around. Interview her or something :p

4. What about your triggers, Valbot? :) You like triggering other people hmmmm? (hey, does 'spark' work if you imagine MK saying it good enough or just when she actually says it?)

5. I'm kinda waiting to see what happens when you all get down to the Erotic Hypnotism podcast <.< >.> Oh and that game!

Well that was my longest post ever so far.

1 See the comments on my previous post. Some people seem to think being owned means, well, merely being an extension of your owner's name (literal paraphrase). x.x

2 Madam is doing her silverlicious Hypnodomme thing, as always.

3 ...I was joking! I'll see if Eri is comfortable with the idea. Interviewing Quillspawn, even a hypnotically created one, really could be fun.

4 I like trancing other people, which leads to triggers. I should post about that more. My own triggers? I'd need an Excel spreadsheet. >.< 'Spark' works only when Madam says (or types) it, though I can usually make myself feel things through self-hypnosis. None of my triggers are not open ones, thankfully.

5 Me too! I've been lovingly nibbling at MK to hurry up with the last two Silver podcasts so we can get to the hypno stuff. The stories are yummy, but the hypno podcasts would have a wider audience...and I wouldn't feel as silly chiming in. v.v Anything in particular you'd want us to cover?

I don't know how much MK wants posted about the game; I'll leave that up to her.

...And I seem to be getting better at actually responding to comments!

Ack. None of my triggers ARE open ones, thankfully. Just waking up... (no sleep last night, early appointment...)

1. I never did, MK wouldn't do that :) Besides, listening to the podcasts kinda distinguishes you two ^_^

2. ^_^ Imagination? (sorry!)

3. Don't give me an opening, I believe I'm obsessed with QS :p

4. How do you know if MK has typed it? Like if she sent an email under her name but made someone else type it...lol I know I'm getting a little technical but this stuff intrigues me ^_^

5. Weeeell...I can't actually think of anything, I'm not quite sure what you mean by it (discussing it or tormenting a couple of thralls on air :p) And yeah, Madam can decide when shes ready to talk about that.

PS: Thanks for responding, and sorry for my atrocious amount of emoticons, I use them to show when I am joking or being playful, and I think I overuse them a little :) But that's just the way I am.

Well, to be more accurate, I'm actually the personification of Erika's artistic side. Her muse, if you will. I share Erika's love of Quillspawn, however, and have acquired that nickname because I rather latched onto the character as my personality was developing.

So, I'm not precisely Quillspawn, but I do hope that imitation can be the sincerest form of flattery.

You sound like it ^^ But I'm a little confused now lol.

1 I know! I deeply appreciate it, too.

2 Keep imagining. ^^

3 Why Quillspawn? (Just curious.) I think I'm a little obsessed with her too. Eri seems fine with the idea, though Eri herself will need to approve anything she does as QS before it goes up.

4 Once, in MCG chat, someone made his name as close to MK's as he could and started typing various triggers. I didn't respond to his, even when I got fuzzy enough to no longer be able to easily tell their names apart. I only responded when I heard MK type before text appeared over here. As for e-mail: MK would only use light triggers in e-mail, so I'll experience them as long as it's her e-mail address. We'd play through text when I lived in Florida, but I knew it was her due to having been talking with her a bit before each session. There was no question once we started playing via phone. Now? She's less than six feet away. I can hear her type. But if I'm not absolutely certain something is coming from HER, I won't feel it. She tried to spark me through Eri, once. Even though I could tell Eri's response was something MK had programmed her to say, it didn't affect me at all. Sometimes I won't feel things even when I know they're from MK. If I'm in a rotten mood, feeling insecure about something, not wanting whoever is around to see me respond, etc... No luck. She gave me safety protocols for a reason. I don't mind technicalities!

5 We'd be discussing it! But she will likely torment me on the air from time to time. x.x

Emoticons are fine. ^^

Well, I like QS because she is like the embodiment of hypnotic irony :)

You know, like making Sarah's mother want to betray her daughter, that kinda thing. That interests me even without erotica attached ^^

Thanks for Happily love =p

Doing a B movie/horror movie structure is something I want to do again sometime, because the format is just perfect for short stories. Actually any movie structure is, I think, because it forces you to hit plot points that make the story complete.

Here's where the monster is discoverd/created. Here's the first dumb blonde girl to wander into the woods. Here the heroes figure out what's going on. Here is the EPIC FINAL BATTLEZ.

Or pick any movie type you want. But even though the plot points are standard and predictable, they're more than the average short story (the average MC story anyway) has. Short stories tend to be more about a character's perceptions. You don't usually see a short story with a full 3 act structure.

But it's a really fun thing to try and do. The end result will feel kind of cinematic. I think most people have probably been seeing movies for so long that the 3 act structure is ingrained in the brain. I think it resonates with the reader.

And the other nice thing is it helps stop writer's block, because you're not just wandering. You're always driving towards one point or another. Obviously the points don't have to be the same as a horror movie. But, points. Being driven to. I think the reader picks up on that too. It gives it a sense of urgency.

Obviously won't work for all stories or even most. But to create something that reads and feels like a popcorn flick, self contained from beginning to middle to end likea movie, it's fun to try. Try it!
