Coming up for air . . .

I HATE Internet Explorer.

Micro$oft, seriously . . . ? Fuck yourself. I could rant about how broken IE really is—and even CSS in certain ways—but that's not the purpose of the Kistublot.

Fantastically annoying code snafus aside, it's done. Madam has a new site! Same address, MadamKistulot.net, with a lovely new design. I'm reasonably sure everything works, but please let me know if you find any broken links or if anything displays awkwardly for you (especially any Mac users in the audience).

Madam wanted some things, such as the splash page, to remain the same. Almost everything else is new.

The 'blot got another makeover, too: a real one this time.

Slave life post? Right . . . I sort of got lost in code. I now refer to the Silververse "lovingly" as the God Damned Mother Fucking Silververse due to the overwhelming hassle it was to organize and link!

Goddess, I really am tired. But it's DONE! That's really the entire point of my post, to say this is done and to tell you all to go look!

My next post really will have something to do with real-life MC beyond the technical administration of Madam's web presence.

Making things work in both IE and Firefox really is a nightmare. It's not just CSS, it's javascript too-- actually, it's almost anything beyond the most basic tags.

CSS is the most maddening though, because it's the most complicated. I've reverted to using tables for most page layout things. Most web designers will probably tell you "tables are so 1999", but they just work. So I tend to use them for the skeleton of a page, and use CSS to manage all of the micro-things.

Soeroah: (I capped it, this time. :p) Yes . . . though I do have a tendency to get lost in my own head all too easily.

Nex: That avatar suits you wonderfully. Oh! I read "Sockie Says" . . . I found myself reeling in abject agony from the continual pop culture references, but otherwise it was a great story. At least the post after my slave life post will be considerably easier to write!

Byte: That's a good approach! I think I'm going to do that from now on. Do you have any clue why adding letter-spacing to the 'blot layout fucked with paragraph spacing in IE? Worked fine in Firefox, but after adding that to the body element it...IE...yeah...no paragraph spacing, no margins...I have no clue why that broke in IE since Madam's site has it and it works fine. >.<

That's pretty bizarre, I have no idea. Also, not surprised. letter-spacing is a property I've never used, but it sounds like, since it was in a top level element (body), IE found a way to apply it to every element on the page? Since it didn't happen on MK's main site, only on the blog, I'd have to guess it's a conflict with the other style sheets you're importing for the blog.

That really is just a wild guess though-- why CSS does some things some times and others other times remains a mystery to me. I'm a bad bad web designer.

If you want to know a secret, my company hired an intern last summer to make the pretty parts of the new website (including all of the CSS), and I just handled all of the PHP and database stuff. Interns-- they work for free!

Somebody told me I needed an icon. It was the best one I could find. For some reason, there are no bald people in icons, and I had to go with the hair, but it looks like a wig. So I surmise this is a portrait of St Miklos the Bewigged.
